One of my favorite animes is Samurai Champloo... mostly because of this guy, one of the three main protagonists... the vagabond known as Mugen!
He really made an impression on me in the first episode and I couldn't get enough of him. SO naturally what does an artist do when he's inspired by a character? Draw him/her! Heh. I've been wanting to try my hand at him for quite a while now and here's the result.
When I was first drawing this, though, I also wanted Jin and possibly Fuu to be included too (behind and following Mugen into, say, a bar).
But I think I did almost too much on drawing Mugen... I knew he was going to dominate the scene anyway. So I didn't bother in the end.
Later on I thought about maybe having nervous and sweating enemy swordsmen rounding Mugen here, hence his smirk almost implying a dark invitation to a ferocious dance!
Shading looked kinda better on paper than when it was scanned tho, but I was too tired to go back to it
But he somehow reminds me of those quiet, dark type of characters. Kinda like Sasuke....or something. XD I've only watched a few episodes (I have like, 10 of them, but I haven't finished it yet).
and you did real justice here to Mugen...i ADORE his expression!
very much his "aggressive negotiations" face
i too have done bunches of portraits of my fav characters so that way i can focus just on them...i know what you mean
oooooo and the title is PERFECT!! hahahahahahha
FAVS!
I definitely seem to do better when it's close ups of characters I really like.
>_>
<_<
I only found that out after I watched it. XP But I did like Mugen the first when I first saw it. His style ROCKS. XD
He's the smex either way. KEKEKEKE. XD
Jin's alright.
